Our Social Networking Adventure
Hey, forgive me because I am still getting used to the features of the typepad system. In fact, I am working hard to become more active on lots of social sites. My activities online mostly get treasured visitors through the big search engines right now.
I am composing this post to help my readers get more familar with social networks, and also to let you know where we hang out in cyberspace!
I am finding that I can reach a lot more peoplel through social networks. Search engines are great when you want to be found because you can try to help with a specific inquiry or problem. But social networks are great places to just intoduce yourself.
Connecting With The Over 50 Website Through Social Networks
My profile on Typepad is: http://profile.typepad.com/over50web
That profile also points to some other information about us.
- Our twitter is: http://twitter.com/over50web - I am also getting used to Twitter.
- Of course, the main website is www.Over50web.net Someoby already grabbed the .com version of that page - I have no idea why.
- We do have a pretty active Facebook group. This provides another place for discussions and some fun information. I think of the Facebook page as a supplement to the main website. It is more interactive, and sometimes it provides a good discussion platform. You can look for the Over 50 Website on Facebook here. It's been a lot of fun, and I try to keep the [email protected] down to a low buzz.
- And what list would be complete without our new Google Plus Over 50 Page? Again, this is a work in progress, but I'd sure like to see more people join my circles.
As an aside, Facebook used ot be a place for kids, teens, and young adults to connect. Like it or not, the boomers have invaded. It is a pretty good place for the "mature" (or not) adult crowd to hook up.
Right now - on the personal side - Facebook is the most active, while Twitter follows second. The other communities are newer to me, and I am still trying to get the hang of them. Publishers are human too.
Professional Social Networking
If you want to connect on a more professional level, you may want to explore LinkedIn. It is a socal site that was developed for this use, and it has become a great place to network, promote an opportunity, or even find a job. There are some good tips on using LinkedIn here. They may be particulary good for older folks who are not as familiar with the ins and outs of social stuff as the kids are.
If you know of a good place to connect that I have missed, let me know! Hopefully, as I expand my range more, I will start adding more tips and links. Thanks for your patience.
